Joann Pyne

Joann Pyne has more than 20 years experience in local, state and federal government across a variety of senior executive roles. She is an experienced General Manager with a demonstrated history of working in the education management industry.

Her first public sector roles were with Brisbane City Council. However, Joann took up a position with TAFE Queensland in 1997 and has seen her career with the organisation advance. Consequently, she has now held several senior roles within the department.

TAFE Queensland is the statutory authority parent body for TAFE technical and further education training in Queensland. 

Joann has been a strong operations professional skilled in Career Development, Business Planning, Coaching, Government, and Learning Management. After serving in a number of senior roles, Joann was employed as Chief Academic Officer at TAFE Queensland.

Joann has been instrumental in developing a range of programs that have received awards for their innovative approach, unique and successful partnerships, and their responsiveness to business, industry and community.

During her career Joann has been passionate about ensuring TAFE Queensland is seen as the premier training provider and an advocate of Indigenous vocational education in Queensland that students, employers, industry and employees are proud to be associated with. Furthermore, Joann is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

140 Years of TAFE Queensland

TAFE Queensland staff including Joann Pyne celebrated 140 years of TAFE Queensland. As Chief Academic Officer Joann took a leading role in a commemoratory podcast in 2022.

Indeed, Joann was awarded a ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award by TAFE at a ceremony on the 9th of September 2023.

In addition to her role as an important member of the TAFE leadership team, Joann is happily married to husband Len and is a passionate supporter of the Cairns Taipans.

Joann is also the daughter of former Mayor of Cairns Tom Pyne and sister of former Councillor and Member for Cairns Rob Pyne. She is also a loving Aunt to Rob’s daughter Kate Pyne.

Joann Pyne Retires

Joann retired from her job at TAFE in 2024 and is enjoying her time in retirement with her husband Len.

Apart from travelling with Len, Joann’s interests include fashion, design and literature.
