Sugarworld Parklands Reviews
The highlight of this venue are the trees. Indeed, the unique botanic gardens feature acres of historic trees and an exotic fruit tree orchard, with diverse and interesting fruits, including Jaboticaba, the Miracle Fruit (which turns sour into sweet), Garcinia (Mangosteen), Artocarpus (Breadfruit types) and Canistel.
However our favourite tree by far is the big old raintree located not far from the entry to the park.
History
Sugarworld Parklands lies in the traditional lands of the Yidinji people, who call Cairns ‘Gimuy’.
The parklands gets its name from its location. In fact it is located on the site of the former Hambledon Sugar Mill. The mill operated from 1883 up until its closure in 1991.
Following the closure of the mill the vision for Sugarworld Parklands emerged. Consequently, today it is the premier park in South Cairns. Managed by Cairns Regional Council, it is a source of pride and enjoyment to residents living in Edmonton and surrounding suburbs.
Sugarworld Menu
Enjoy a selection of hot and cold foods, including nuggets, hot chips, dim sims, potato scallops, toasted and fresh sandwiches, wraps and rolls. You can check out the cafe website for further information.
